Recovery needs to recreate the working service and its required data after a machine or process is lost. Which artifacts and state need protection, and how should the restore be checked?

Preserve source, lockfiles, build outputs or the ability to rebuild them, and external application data. node_modules is not a substitute for dependency provenance. Keep the exact production image or artifact identifier so a restore does not silently install a different dependency tree.
