Behavior: FileZilla's certificate trust persistence for self‑signed FTPS hosts

FileZilla stores user‑trusted certificates in its certificate manager, yet when connecting to an FTPS server that presents a self‑signed certificate the client still prompts for validation on each new session, even though the certificate is marked as trusted.
The goal is to determine whether the client should automatically skip hostname verification for such pre‑trusted self‑signed certificates, balancing the convenience of persistent trust against the risk of bypassing validation when the certificate or server identity changes. This decision remains unresolved in the current implementation.
Should FileZilla treat a certificate that the user has explicitly trusted as sufficient to bypass hostname checks for subsequent connections to the same host?
If automatic bypass is allowed, what safeguards should be in place to detect certificate rotation or man‑in‑the‑middle attacks?
Alternatively, should the existing manual trust entry per session be retained to preserve strict validation?

FileZilla should not automatically skip hostname verification** for a user‑trusted self‑signed certificate**. The client must still verify that the hostname presented by the server matches the one the user originally trusted, and that the certificate’s fingerprint has not changed. Only an optional, user‑controlled bypass that performs strict hostname‑and‑fingerprint checks should be considered.
CN or SAN fields. This preserves the convenience of persistent trust while guarding against host or certificate changes.
FileZilla could expose a setting such as Allow Trusted Certs to Bypass Hostname Check. When enabled, the above hostname‑and‑fingerprint check is performed automatically. The UI should display a clear warning whenever a mismatch occurs, and the user must confirm acceptance.
FileZilla → Settings → FTP → FTP over TLS/SSL → Certificate Manager to confirm the cert is listed. To tailor the recommendation to your environment, could you confirm whether your organization requires an automated bypass for trusted hosts, or if strict per‑session validation is acceptable?
