Edge Middleware moves auth, routing, and feature flags to the edge — but only if you respect the 1.5 MB bundle, 50 ms CPU, and no-request-body limits. Here's how to decide when it fits and how to verify it works.
Decide when to use Vercel Edge Middleware versus a Serverless Function for redirects, rewrites, and header changes based on latency, runtime limits, and need for async I/O.
Diagnosing Middleware Rule Precedence When deploying an application on Vercel, two Edge Middleware files are defined with overlapping route patterns. The first rule intends to add a custom header for all paths under /api/* , while the second rule redirects /api/v1/* to a legacy service. In production, requests to /api/v1/users receive the header from the fir
The goal is to achieve exactly‑once semantics for side‑effects (e.g., writes to a database or KV store) when a Vercel Serverless Function is retried by a client after a transient network error or 5xx response. Vercel treats each retry as a new invocation with a distinct request ID, so without application‑level guards the same logical request can trigger mult
