Why Kerala Blasters is trending in India
Kerala Blasters is trending because the club has started a new season with a rebuilt squad, a new owner and a fanbase waiting to see whether either fixes last year's problems. Google Trends India flagged “kerala blasters” as a trending search on 10 October 2026, with roughly 500 approximate searches in the previous 24 hours and about 75% growth. That figure measures search interest only — it is not website traffic, and it does not by itself confirm anything about the club.
The football reason is simple. The 2026–27 Indian Super League season began on 10 October, and Kerala Blasters' opening fixture is against Inter Kashi in Pune. Between the transfer window and the boardroom, very little around the squad has stayed the same.
Kerala Blasters' Indian signings for ISL 2026–27
The domestic recruitment leans on experience in goal and creativity in midfield. Amrinder Singh, a 33-year-old India international goalkeeper, arrives from Odisha FC with more than 150 ISL appearances behind him. Mohammad Yasir joins from FC Goa, returning to Kerala after earlier ISL stints elsewhere. Mohammed Sanan K., a 22-year-old attacker from Jamshedpur FC, adds a younger option in wide areas.
The Week's 6 October report lists two further additions: attacker Ramhlunchhunga, known as Chhunga Hmar, a 25-year-old signed from SC Delhi on a contract running to the end of 2027-28, and central midfielder Paul Ramfangzauva, who came through Aizawl and later played for Odisha FC.
| Player | Role | Previous club |
|---|---|---|
| Amrinder Singh | Goalkeeper | Odisha FC |
| Mohammad Yasir | Midfielder | FC Goa |
| Mohammed Sanan K. | Forward | Jamshedpur FC |
| Ramhlunchhunga (Chhunga Hmar) | Attacker | SC Delhi |
Four new foreigners and one familiar face
Onmanorama's 9 October report framed the window as a coach-driven overhaul, with Adrian Luna the sole foreign holdover from the previous squad. The incoming group covers four different roles:
- Andre Green — English winger, 27, a former Aston Villa academy player who made his senior debut in 2015 and has represented England at under-18, under-19 and under-20 level.
- James Bolton — English defender whose career spans more than 400 appearances.
- Momo Yansane — Guinean striker arriving from Armenian football.
- Nebojsa Kosovic — Montenegro midfielder with experience in European competition, including the UEFA Nations League.
Green's English club career includes Portsmouth, Preston North End, Sheffield United and Rotherham United. Bolton is expected to shore up the back line, while Kosovic adds depth in the middle. Onmanorama also noted the club may still bring in another foreign defender.
Luna's return matters for continuity. The Week reported that the Uruguayan playmaker, who had left during the previous season's disruption, was set to rejoin the camp shortly — useful for a side integrating so many new faces.
The Al Fursan takeover, explained
Ownership changed hands on 29 September 2026, when Al Fursan — described as a UAE-based sports and sports-tech consortium led by Sheikh Ahmad bin Faisal Al Qasimi — announced it had taken over from the Magnum Group. This is an announcement of a phased deal, not a completed handover: Al Fursan is to acquire full ownership over eight months, with the transition expected to conclude near the end of the 2026-27 season. Birbal Sports & Entertainment, founded by Jitesh Mehta and Ronak Dalal, facilitated the deal and continues to assist with recruitment, while Ofioh Sports has been named operational partner.
Why the rebuild follows a difficult 2025-26
Context explains the urgency. The previous ISL campaign was pushed back to February 2026 because of contractual disputes between the AIFF and FSDL, and the disruption cost Kerala Blasters key players. David Català began that season as coach but was replaced by Westwood, who steadied the side with a strong unbeaten run; the club finished eighth with 29 points from 24 matches. The Manjappada supporters' group boycotted matches during that period, and the sporting director and two specialist coaches also left.
What to watch in the opener
Kerala Blasters' first fixture is against Inter Kashi in Pune. The league's own preview dates the season's start to 10 October, while Onmanorama's 9 October report described the Blasters' opener as a Sunday fixture — so check the official ISL schedule for the confirmed kickoff slot.
For fans, the bigger question is cohesion. Westwood has to blend four new overseas players, a returning captain and several Indian additions into one unit, and Onmanorama noted that the ownership transition delayed preparations. Debut dates for individual signings depend on fitness and the fixture list, so treat any starting XI prediction as speculation until team sheets are published.
