Indian Railways is preparing to launch a high-speed వందే భారత్ ఎక్స్ప్రెస్ (Vande Bharat Express) sleeper service connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai. This proposed route is set to significantly benefit travelers from Andhra Pradesh, particularly those in the Rayalaseema region, by providing a faster and more modern alternative to existing long-distance trains.
The 'Rayalaseema Shortcut': Reduced Travel Time
The introduction of the sleeper variant of the వందే భారత్ ఎక్స్ప్రెస్ aims to slash travel duration between Bengaluru and Mumbai. While traditional trains typically take between 22 to 24 hours to complete this journey, the new service is expected to finish the trip in approximately 15 to 16 hours, saving passengers up to 8 hours of travel time [1].
For residents of Andhra Pradesh, the train will provide critical high-speed connectivity with scheduled stops at Anantapur and Guntakal stations, making travel to India's financial capital more accessible for the Rayalaseema population.
Proposed Schedule and Train Configuration
The service is proposed to operate six days a week in both directions. According to current plans, the train will depart from the Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal at 7:50 PM and arrive in Mumbai at 11:55 AM the following day [1].
Capacity and Comfort
The train will feature a 16-coach configuration designed to accommodate 823 passengers:
- Third AC: 11 coaches
- Second AC: 4 coaches
- Other: 1 additional coach
Estimated Costs and Amenities
One of the key attractions of the వందే భారత్ ఎక్స్ప్రెస్ is the integrated catering service. Ticket prices are expected to include breakfast and meals, removing the need for passengers to carry their own food. While official charges have not yet been finalized by the railway department, Third AC tickets are estimated to be around ₹3,000 [1].
Technical Highlights
Unlike traditional trains that use a separate locomotive, the Vande Bharat utilizes a self-propelled system with motors under the coaches, similar to metro trains. This allows for faster acceleration and a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Additionally, the trains feature automatic doors and airport-like amenities to enhance the passenger experience.
