What the interviews actually said
Director Atlee Kumar spoke about மருதநாயகம் in two Tamil-media interviews. Daily Thanthi published its report on 5 October 2026, reporting that he was referring to the abandoned project associated with Kamal Haasan and naming Vijay Sethupathi as the other preferred lead. Thanthi TV followed on 6 October 2026 with a headline noting his open expression of a wish to direct the film.
Where the remarks were made
The Daily Thanthi report places Atlee’s comments at the success meet of Baththa, the Vijay Sethupathi film that the report says was released on the 1st. Speaking there, Atlee said Vijay Sethupathi chooses films that prioritise story, and that in a project like மருதநாயகம் the story itself should be the hero rather than fixed hero-villain roles.
Cast preference and story status
Atlee did not announce a greenlit film. In the Daily Thanthi report he said he has a small story idea and would want to cast Kamal Haasan and Vijay Sethupathi if the opportunity and budget allow. This wording points to a conditional aspiration rather than a confirmed production.
Search interest versus confirmed production
A Google Trends snapshot for India observed on 7 October 2026 recorded approximately 1,000 searches for மருதநாயகம் and 300% growth over the past 24 hours. The trends data measures search interest only; it does not confirm that a film is being made, nor does it represent website traffic. The spike coincided with the circulation of the Thanthi TV and Daily Thanthi interviews.

What remains unannounced
