Real-time collaboration missing in serverless Hoppscotch deployment for low-traffic team workload

Goal: minimize hosting cost for a low-traffic Hoppscotch instance while retaining real-time collaboration for a small team.
Constraints: serverless deployments (Cloudflare Workers, Vercel) reduce idle cost to near-zero but currently lack persistent WebSocket support, disabling live collaboration and real-time sync. Self-hosted VPS ($4–6/month) supports full feature parity when configured with a WebSocket proxy and PostgreSQL, but adds operational overhead.
Uncertainty: whether serverless can be extended with managed WebSocket services (e.g., Pusher, Ably) to restore collaboration without significant cost or complexity, and whether the Hoppscotch CLI headless mode can fully replace a running instance for automated contract testing in CI/CD pipelines.

Real-time collaboration is not fundamentally incompatible with serverless Hoppscotch deployments, but the platform's inherent function and connection timeouts prevent persistent WebSocket connections from working natively. The Hoppscotch collaboration feature relies on a WebSocket endpoint configured through the WS_URL environment variable.
WS_URL to its endpoint.WS_URL to the service's endpoint; free or low-tier plans often cover 3-5 users with sporadic usage at a cost comparable to or lower than a $4-$6/month VPS.For a team of 3-5 users with sporadic usage, the incremental cost of a managed WS plan is frequently lower than maintaining a persistent VPS, especially if async-only workflows are acceptable. Eliminating the WebSocket layer removes both cost and complexity, and the serverless Hoppscotch instance satisfies basic API testing needs.
CLI headless mode for CI/CD: The Hoppscotch CLI can execute collections, run assertions, and output JUnit or XML reports, making it suitable for automated contract testing in CI/CD pipelines. However, it does not provide collaborative UI features (real-time editor sync, presence indicators) and therefore cannot fully replace a running Hoppscotch instance for collaborative development.
hoppscotch-cli run collection.json --report junit --output report.xmlTo refine the recommendation, please confirm which serverless platform you are using and whether an external WebSocket endpoint URL or managed WS service credential is already available.
