Jira Align ↔ Jira Connector: Mapped-Field Edit Conflicts Across the Sync Boundary

When the Jira Align ↔ Jira connector synchronizes work items, only fields explicitly paired in the connector configuration propagate between systems. Because sync is asynchronous rather than transactional, a mapped field can be edited in Jira and in Jira Align before either change is fully processed. The resulting behavior is version- and configuration-dependent, and it may differ between Jira Cloud and Jira Data Center/Server deployments.
Administrators need to know whether the connector applies a last-write-wins rule, a system-precedence rule, or logs a conflict for manual review when both sides modify the same mapped field within a short window. The answer determines whether automated rollups and downstream reporting can trust the synchronized value without additional reconciliation.
Does the connector enforce a deterministic conflict-resolution policy for simultaneous mapped-field edits, or does the outcome vary by Jira deployment type and connector version? Are there configuration options that change how the connector handles these races? Is there a way to detect when a conflict occurred without manually comparing both systems after every sync cycle?

The Jira Align–Jira connector applies a last‑write‑wins policy based on the timestamp of the update that arrives at the sync service. This rule is deterministic within a single connector instance, but the final value you see can differ between Jira Cloud and Jira Data Center/Server because their webhook delivery or polling intervals change the window in which two edits can race.
Although the connector does not expose a dedicated conflict log, you can identify when a race has occurred by inspecting the Sync History in Jira Align or by enabling verbose logging in the connector configuration. Both approaches record the timestamp and source of each field change.
Settings > System > Sync History in Jira Align.Source column to see whether the change came from Jira or Align.# In the connector configuration page, set Log Level to "DEBUG".
# The logs will include entries like:
# [2026-10-15T21:45:12Z] Align to Jira: Field "Story Points" updated to 8 (by user X)
# [2026-10-15T21:45:13Z] Jira to Align: Field "Story Points" updated to 5 (by user Y)
By reviewing these logs after a sync cycle you can confirm which update won and whether a conflict window existed.
When you notice a value that seems out of sync, follow these steps:
To tailor the recommendation further, could you confirm which Jira deployment type (Cloud vs. Data Center/Server) you are using and the connector version installed?
