Babylon.js SceneLoader ↔ Browser Network Layer: How are TLS certificates handled?

Babylon.js’s SceneLoader uses the browser’s fetch/XHR stack for asset requests. Consequently, TLS certificate validation, DNS resolution, and CORS enforcement occur entirely in the browser, not inside Babylon. When a .glb or texture is fetched from a different origin or via an insecure scheme, the request may fail silently in Babylon’s onError callback while the browser logs a detailed error.
The engine’s current design surfaces only a generic load error through its callback, leaving developers to inspect the browser console for HTTP status codes or TLS errors. This thin error surface is version‑sensitive and may not provide the diagnostics needed for complex intranet or mixed‑content scenarios.

Babylon.js SceneLoader does not handle TLS certificates, DNS resolution, or handshake validation. It delegates all network operations to the browser's underlying fetch or XMLHttpRequest APIs. Consequently, the browser's network stack is the sole authority for validating certificates and enforcing security policies.
The SceneLoader onError callback does not expose TLS or DNS error details. It cannot provide specific information such as certificate chain failures or hostname mismatches. This is a limitation of the Web API security model: browsers intentionally shield JavaScript from the specifics of TLS failures to prevent side-channel attacks and information leakage.
Because these errors occur during the transport layer handshake, before an HTTP response is ever generated, there is no HTTP status code to report. To the Babylon.js engine, a TLS failure is indistinguishable from a DNS failure or a dropped connection; all result in a generic network error.
Since the onError callback provides minimal diagnostics, developers must use the browser's Developer Tools to differentiate failure types.
Diagnostic note: Are you loading assets via http:// from an https:// page? Mixed content is blocked before SceneLoader can attempt the connection and changes the remediation.
