Why 'ZEE5' Is Trending in India: 'हाथरस 16 दिन' Buzz, Telugu Serial Updates and a 200% Search Surge

Searches for "zee5" in India rose by roughly 200% over a 24-hour window observed on 6 October 2026, according to Google Trends data. The spike appears tied to fresh coverage of the platform's content slate — most notably renewed attention on the three-part crime documentary series हाथरस 16 दिन and daily episode updates for the Telugu drama Nindu Noorella Saavasam. It is worth being precise about what the trend signal means: Google Trends measures search activity, not streams or subscriptions, and ZEE5 does not publicly release per-show viewership figures.

What the Google Trends signal actually shows

The Google Trends India page, observed at 11:14 PM IST on 6 October 2026, listed "zee5" among trending terms with approximately 100 searches in the tracked window and 200% growth over the past 24 hours. Trending Now counts are approximate search activity — they confirm that people were looking up the platform, not that any particular claim about its viewership is true. A spike of this kind typically follows a cluster of news articles, social media discussion or a new release, and in this case regional entertainment coverage provides a plausible explanation.

'हाथरस 16 दिन': the three-episode series driving Marathi media coverage

A TV9 Marathi report published on 6 October 2026 spotlighted हाथरस 16 दिन, a documentary-style crime series streaming on ZEE5. According to the report, the series is based on the investigation into the 2020 Hathras incident in Uttar Pradesh, in which a young Dalit woman was attacked — a case that shook the country. The series uses ground reporting and archival video footage to examine the crime alongside questions of political power, caste discrimination and social reality.

The format is unusually compact: three episodes of 33, 34 and 28 minutes respectively, totalling roughly 95 minutes. The TV9 Marathi article states the series is directed by Patrick Graham, produced by Samar Khan and Aditya Pittie, and features Anjali Sivaraman, Pavel Gulati, Kumud Mishra and Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan among its cast. It also reports an IMDb rating of 7.6. Readers should note that the series deals with a sensitive real-life crime and may be disturbing for some viewers.

'Nindu Noorella Saavasam' keeps Telugu audiences engaged daily

On the Telugu side, Nindu Noorella Saavasam (నిండు నూరేళ్ల సావాసం) continues its daily run. An ABP Telugu episode update dated 5 October 2026 — which credits ZEE5.com for the episode imagery — recaps a storyline in which Bhagi uses a new SIM card and a disguised voice to have Rathod threaten Amar, prompting Amar to leave for Delhi. Daily written updates of this kind indicate an active, ongoing broadcast schedule and a steady audience following the serial's twists.

Why short and regional formats are working for ZEE5

The two titles illustrate two distinct engagement models on the platform:

• Short-form binge: हाथरस 16 दिन tells a complete story in under two hours across three episodes, suiting viewers who want a high-impact watch in one sitting.
• Daily appointment viewing: Nindu Noorella Saavasam sustains interest through a continuing narrative with episode-by-episode recaps in regional media.

Together, they show how regional-language coverage — in Marathi and Telugu here — can amplify interest in a platform beyond its Hindi-speaking base. The 200% search growth observed on 6 October 2026 reflects that curiosity, but it should be read as a signal of search interest only, not as evidence of record viewership.
