What Khelo Telangana is
On 22 September 2026 the Telangana Sports Department together with the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) announced a state‑wide programme called Khelo Telangana. The aim is to broaden sports culture and encourage daily physical activity for people of all ages. Sports Minister V. Srihari revealed the official poster at the State Secretariat, an event covered by Telangana Today and The Siasat Daily. The minister stressed that at least 30 minutes of exercise each day should become a habit, and the government wants fitness to turn into a people’s movement.
9+9+9 Fitness Challenge
A centrepiece of the launch is the “9+9+9 Fitness Challenge”. Participants record a 27‑second video of any fitness activity — walking, jogging, yoga, etc. — post it on social media, tag nine friends and ask each of those friends to invite nine more people. The linked “Khelo Telangana Bandhan” campaign encourages making such activities a regular part of daily life.
Planned leagues and disciplines
To turn the initiative into a lasting sporting ecosystem, the department plans to organise leagues and competitions across ten disciplines: wrestling, boxing, volleyball, table tennis, judo, basketball, athletics, football, cycling and yoga. Opportunities will start at school level and extend to all age groups, with a focus on participation, talent identification and nurturing future champions.

How to interpret the search spike
Google Trends India recorded the term sports as trending on 23 September 2026, showing roughly 1,000 searches and a 1,000 % increase over the previous 24 hours (Google Trends). This spike coincides with media coverage of the Khelo Telangana launch and its viral reel challenge. The trend reflects search interest only; it does not measure actual participation, nor does it indicate a national policy.
