Who is Matheuzinho? Why the Corinthians Defender is Trending in India

The name matheuzinho has seen a sudden surge in search interest across India, with Google Trends reporting a 700% growth in queries as of October 4, 2026. While the player is a Brazilian national, the spike in Indian interest is driven by a combination of his professional rise with the Brazil national team, a viral training incident, and high-profile personal news.

Professional Rise: Leading the Seleção Newcomers

Matheuzinho, a right-back for Corinthians, has recently emerged as a standout performer for the Brazil national team (Seleção). According to reports from Tribuna de Jundiaí on October 4, 2026, he has led the ranking of debutants during the most recent Data Fifa window.

With 164 minutes played across two appearances, he outperformed other newcomers like Jair Cunha and Mauro Júnior. His defensive stability has been noted by the coaching staff, having conceded only one goal—a free kick—during his first match against Australia [3].

Viral Moments and Training Controversies

Beyond his statistics, Matheuzinho gained social media attention due to a physical clash during national team preparations. On September 29, 2026, a video shared by sportv went viral showing Matheuzinho delivering a "hard foul" on teammate Rayan during a training session [2]. The intensity of the challenge sparked debate among fans regarding whether it was standard training aggression or a sign of tension within the squad.

Personal Life: Romance and Influencer Ties

Adding to his visibility, Matheuzinho has recently entered a high-profile relationship. In October 2026, he publicly confirmed his dating status with digital influencer and entrepreneur Pétala Barreiros [1]. The announcement followed Corinthians' victory in the Supercopa Rei.

Pétala Barreiros is a well-known figure in Brazil, having appeared on the reality show A Fazenda 14 and co-founding the international e-sports organization Alpha 7. The couple's relationship has further bridged the gap between sports and celebrity culture, with Barreiros' beauty brand even launching a fragrance dedicated to the player.
