Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) released its second-quarter FY27 financial results on 8 October 2026, signaling a strong pivot toward artificial intelligence despite a challenging global IT environment. The company reported a consolidated net profit of ₹13,884 crore, marking a 15% increase compared to the ₹12,075 crore earned in the same period last year, according to The Economic Times.
Financial Performance and Dividends
Revenue from operations grew by 11.2% year-on-year to reach ₹73,188 crore. While the growth was steady, the company maintained a healthy operating margin of 24% and a net margin of 19%. For shareholders, the board recommended a second interim dividend of ₹12 per equity share, an increase from the ₹11 paid a year ago. Investors should note the record date is 14 October 2026, with the actual payment scheduled for 30 October 2026, as reported by The Hindu.
The AI Transformation Shift
The most significant highlight of the TCS Q2 results 2026 is the scale of AI adoption. Annualised AI revenue has now crossed $3.1 billion, which accounts for over 10% of the company's total revenue. This shift is not just about software but about "transformation partnerships." CEO K Krithivasan specifically pointed to deals with Porsche AG and Best Buy as new models for scaling AI. In the case of Best Buy, TCS is transitioning its Global Capability Center in India into a dedicated AI Capability Center.
To support this transition, TCS is investing heavily in infrastructure and talent. The company recently launched an Industrial Autonomy and Engineering Lab in Pune and a Bengaluru-based lab powered by NVIDIA. This is reflected in employee training, with learning hours increasing by 17% sequentially to 17.1 million.
Segment and Regional Analysis
Performance varied across different industry verticals and geographies during the September quarter:
- Growth Drivers: Manufacturing and Technology & Services both grew by 3.1% sequentially, while Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) grew by 2.5%.
- Declines: Consumer Business and Energy, Resources and Utilities saw slight dips of 0.7% and 0.5% respectively.
- Regional Trends: The UK emerged as the strongest large market with 3.5% sequential growth. Conversely, revenue in India fell 10.3% sequentially, though it remained 6% higher than the previous year.
Despite these fluctuations, the company's total contract value (TCV) remained robust at $9.6 billion, providing a buffer against weak discretionary spending in the broader IT sector. The total workforce also grew slightly to 598,056 employees, with attrition in IT services stabilizing at 13.3%.
