Why 8 October 2026 is especially auspicious

Guru Pradosh occurs when Pradosh Vrat falls on a Thursday. The vrat is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Guru Brihaspati. In October 2026 this combination lands on 8 October.

The Bhaskar report on the coincidence notes that Guru Pradosh and the monthly Shivratri coincided on this day. The report highlights that Ashwin Krishna Paksha monthly Shivratri falling on Thursday created a favourable belief for puja-archana and abhishek in Shiva temples, and that Pradosh Kaal is considered fruitful for Shiva worship.

Monthly Shivratri falls on Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi. When it aligns with Guru Pradosh, the day gains added significance for devotees who observe fasting, evening abhishek with water, milk and Gangajal, and recitation of Shiva mantras.

Evening Pradosh Kaal puja practice

Pradosh Vrat is observed twice a month in Shukla and Krishna Paksha. The main worship is done in the evening when Trayodashi overlaps with Pradosh Kaal.

The Jagran article on Guru Pradosh 2026 explains that the vrat will be observed on 8 October and that special Shiva puja is performed in the evening Pradosh Kaal. Devotees typically observe a day-long fast, break it after evening worship, and offer belpatra, dhoop, deep and fruits to Shiva Lingam.

Pradosh Kaal timing varies by geographic location and is calculated from sunset. The times referenced here are based on Delhi IST and may differ elsewhere. For precise local muhurta, consult a current panchang for your city.
