India Squad Announcement: Full IND vs WI ODI and T20I Squads for 2026
The BCCI's 16 September 2026 announcement set India's ODI and T20I squads for the West Indies series. Here are the full lists, the captains, the 1 October change and the unanswered Hardik Pandya question.
14 Oct 2026, 20:27 UTC

India's ODI and T20I squads for the home white-ball series against West Indies were announced by the BCCI's Men's Selection Committee on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, at 3:00 pm, along with the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup against Ranji Trophy champions Jammu & Kashmir. The search response was immediate: Google Trends India logged roughly 5,000 searches for "india squad announcement" in the 24 hours to 21:27 UTC on 16 September, about 200% above the previous period. That number measures search interest only — it does not confirm any selection claim.
Who captains India in the ODI and T20I squads
The leadership is split across formats. Shubman Gill captains the ODI side with KL Rahul as vice-captain. Shreyas Iyer captains the T20I team with Tilak Varma as his deputy. Both were named in the BCCI media advisory of 16 September 2026.

The 15-player ODI group announced by the BCCI:
- Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain)
- Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal
- Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja
- Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar
- Auqib Nabi, Naman Dhir
The BCCI release lists Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir among those 15 ODI players.
Full T20I squad — and the 1 October change
The original T20I list named on 16 September was:
- Shreyas Iyer (captain), Tilak Varma (vice-captain)
- Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Shivam Dube
- Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper)
- Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav
- Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav
That group did not stay as announced. A later BCCI press release dated 1 October 2026 stated that Prasidh Krishna would miss the third ODI and that Naman Dhir replaced Washington Sundar for the T20Is. So Washington Sundar, named in the 16 September T20I list, was not part of the T20I squad as amended.
Nitish Reddy, Varun Chakaravarthy and the Asian Games trade-off
The announcement also settled two multi-squad questions. Nitish Kumar Reddy, originally picked for the Asian Games squad, was withdrawn and reassigned to the West Indies ODIs. Separately, Varun Chakaravarthy was ruled out of the Japan T20I and the Asian Games with a side strain, and Vipraj Nigam was named as his replacement.
India's updated squad for the Japan T20I and the Asian Games, as listed by the BCCI, reads: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wicketkeeper), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma (vice-captain), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Yash Thakur and Vipraj Nigam. Jasprit Bumrah's presence there, and his absence from the West Indies T20I list, is one reason the two squads should be read separately rather than as one pool.
Hardik Pandya's absence: what the BCCI did and did not say
Hardik Pandya does not appear in either the ODI or the T20I list published on 16 September 2026, and the BCCI release gives no reason for his omission. The 1 October update does not address it either. Without an official statement from the BCCI or the selection committee, any explanation involving injury, workload or selection policy would be speculation rather than reporting.
Schedule: ODI leg completed, two T20Is remaining
| Match | Date (2026) | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 1st ODI | Sun 27 Sep | Trivandrum |
| 2nd ODI | Wed 30 Sep | Guwahati |
| 3rd ODI | Sat 3 Oct | New Chandigarh |
| 1st T20I | Tue 6 Oct | Lucknow |
| 2nd T20I | Fri 9 Oct | Ranchi |
| 3rd T20I | Sun 11 Oct | Indore |
| 4th T20I | Wed 14 Oct | Hyderabad |
| 5th T20I | Sat 17 Oct | Bengaluru |
As of publication on 14 October 2026, the three ODIs and the first three T20Is have already been played, the fourth T20I is scheduled for Hyderabad that evening, and the finale is set for Bengaluru on 17 October. Cricket West Indies' own site lists the 5th T20I at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Saturday 17 October 2026.
Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup
The same 16 September advisory named the Rest of India squad to face Jammu & Kashmir: Rishabh Pant (captain and wicketkeeper), Sarfaraz Khan (vice-captain), Sanat Sangwan, Shikhar Mohan, Sudip Gharami, Smaran Ravichandran, Manav Suthar, Saransh Jain, Akash Deep (subject to fitness clearance), Mukesh Kumar, Mukesh Choudhary, Aryan Juyal (wicketkeeper), Aryan Pandey, Anukul Roy and Ayush Doseja.
What to take away
The 16 September 2026 announcement set two separate India XIs for the West Indies series — Gill's ODI side and Iyer's T20I side — plus a Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup. It was amended on 1 October, so anyone quoting the original T20I list should note the Washington Sundar-to-Naman Dhir change. And the most-searched question around the announcement, Hardik Pandya's absence, remains officially unanswered.
