Configuration must be available to the application without exposing credentials in source control, logs or browser code. What belongs in the runtime and which access controls matter?

Use standard user accounts for routine work, managed administrator access and supported credential storage. Protect recovery keys in an approved directory or management service. Do not place passwords in scripts, unattended installation files or broadly readable shared folders.
