WebAssembly linear memory growth and ArrayBuffer detachment

Linear Memory Management
WebAssembly modules utilize a sandboxed linear memory model where memory is expanded in 64 KiB pages via the memory.grow instruction. In browser environments, this memory is typically exported as a WebAssembly.Memory object, providing a handle to the underlying ArrayBuffer.
Buffer Detachment Behavior
When a module successfully executes memory.grow, the existing ArrayBuffer associated with the exported memory is detached to allow the engine to reallocate a larger contiguous block of memory. This behavior necessitates that any JavaScript-side typed array views (such as Uint8Array) created before the growth operation be discarded and recreated to point to the new buffer.
While this mechanism ensures memory safety and contiguous addressing, it introduces synchronization challenges for host-side applications that maintain long-lived references to Wasm memory offsets.
- How can host applications efficiently detect buffer detachment without polling the
buffer.byteLengthproperty? - What are the recommended patterns for managing typed array views to minimize the overhead of recreation during frequent memory growth?
