Sudden Docker error about "client API version"
20 Jul 2023, 17:19 UTC
I've been successfully using TestContainers with Docker for quite a while now. All of a sudden today, I started getting this error:
UnixSocketClientProviderStrategy: failed with exception BadRequestException (Status 400:
{"message":"client version 1.32 is too old. Minimum supported API version is 1.44, please upgrade your client to a newer version"}
What could explain such a sudden breakage?

There is an issue raised with Testcontainers about this.
If you can run Testcontainers 2.x, update to 2.0.2 or later. If not, update to 1.21.4.
If you cannot update at all for now, the following hotfix can be used as a workaround:
echo api.version=1.44 >> ~/.docker-java.properties
