Storybook Static Build Deployment: Missing Access Control Configuration

Static Build Deployment
When a Storybook project runs npm run build-storybook, the output is a pure static bundle that can be served by any HTTP server. The intent is to share component examples with stakeholders or embed the UI in documentation sites.
However, the generated bundle contains no authentication or authorization hooks. If the static files are placed on a publicly accessible server or CDN without an external guard, the Storybook UI becomes reachable by anyone on the internet, exposing component source, props, and internal design decisions. The maintainers have discussed, but not yet released, a core flag or addon that would enable built‑in basic auth or token protection.
Given this gap, the community relies on ad‑hoc solutions such as reverse‑proxy middleware, custom Express handlers, or third‑party addons. Which of these approaches is most resilient to future Storybook updates? Will an official authentication feature be added in a future 8.x release, and if so, what configuration will it expose? How can teams reliably enforce access control while keeping the static build process simple?
