Scalingo Environment Variables and Application Log Integration

Configuration Leakage at the Application Boundary
Scalingo manages application secrets and configuration primarily through environment variables (ENV) injected into containers. While these variables are isolated between different applications within a project, they are inherited by all child processes spawned by the main application process.
A critical integration concern arises when applications utilize automated crash reporting or debug logging frameworks. If these tools are configured to capture the full process environment during an unhandled exception, sensitive secrets stored in the Scalingo ENV can be transmitted to external log aggregation services or stored in plaintext logs.
Given that Scalingo propagates these variables to all running instances, there is a need to define a boundary that prevents the application runtime from exposing the entire environment object to the logging layer.
- Does Scalingo provide a native mechanism to mask specific environment variable keys from being read by child processes or diagnostic tools?
- What is the recommended approach to ensure that environment-level secrets are not captured by standard output (stdout) during application dumps?
