Rider ReSharper Analysis and MSBuild Error Reporting
JetBrains Rider runs its ReSharper-based static analysis engine alongside MSBuild compilation to provide real-time IntelliSense and error highlighting. The IDE reads .csproj and .sln files for project structure, but the analysis engine operates independently of the compiler that produces the final build output.
This separation can cause the editor to display errors that do not appear in a terminal build, or to miss issues that MSBuild reports. The divergence may depend on the configured MSBuild version in the Toolset settings and whether the host is Windows or macOS/Linux.
Open Design Question
- Can Rider's static analysis be constrained to report only errors that MSBuild would also emit during compilation?
- What project configuration or cache behavior controls alignment between the analysis index and the MSBuild result?
