Replit DB – query bounding and pagination: missing server‑side limit support
The Replit DB provides basic get, set, delete, and an iterator() for key/value pairs. The iterator currently traverses all keys without any ability to specify a maximum number of results, an offset, or a filter on key or value. This limitation forces developers to implement client‑side pagination or custom indexing when working with datasets that approach the 1 MB size limit.
Because the iterator’s performance degrades linearly with the number of keys, large collections can become impractical to enumerate. The absence of server‑side query constraints is a documented gap in the current Replit DB API, and no public roadmap indicates when, or if, such features will be added.
Key questions remain:
- Will Replit introduce server‑side
limitoroffsetparameters to the iterator API in a future release? - How would adding query‑bounding affect the existing 1 MB storage limit and iterator performance?
- What is the recommended pattern for developers who need pagination today—client‑side slicing, custom indexing, or a hybrid approach?
