Recovery needs to recreate the working service and its required data after a machine or process is lost. Which artifacts and state need protection, and how should the restore be checked?

Preserve rules and scrape configuration, and use supported snapshots or remote storage if historical metrics must survive loss of the server. Define the acceptable monitoring-data gap. An alert rule’s configuration and its historical time series have different recovery requirements.
