StatusCallback Event Processing
Twilio Programmable Messaging utilizes asynchronous webhooks via the StatusCallback parameter to notify external endpoints of message lifecycle changes, such as sent, delivered, and failed.
Concurrency and Ordering Constraints
Under high-volume message delivery, the receiving endpoint may experience a burst of concurrent HTTP POST requests. Because these notifications are delivered asynchronously, there is no native guarantee that status updates will arrive in the chronological order of the message lifecycle.
This behavior introduces potential race conditions where a terminal status, such as delivered, may be processed by the application before the initial sent notification is received.
- How can an application reliably determine the final state of a message when status updates arrive out of sequence?
- What is the recommended mechanism for deduplicating or ordering these events at the application layer to prevent state corruption?
