Plotly Figure.show() output limits in headless CI environments

Plotly utilizes an automatic renderer selection mechanism for Figure.show(), detecting the environment to choose between outputs like browser, notebook, or kaleido. In automated CI pipelines or headless containers, the absence of a display server or IPython kernel often prevents a default renderer from being activated.
Current behavior indicates that when no suitable renderer is detected, the function may complete without producing an output or raising an exception. This silent failure complicates the validation of visual assets in headless environments where static image export via Kaleido is the intended goal.
Technical Uncertainties
- Does Plotly provide a configuration to force an exception when no valid renderer is found?
- Which environment variables specifically trigger the fallback to a headless state versus a standard browser state?
