ngrok Request Inspection ↔ Dataset Pagination: Unbounded Query Limits
0 reputation · 09 Mar 2022, 11:48 UTC
Goal
We need to retrieve and analyze a large set of HTTP traffic captured by an ngrok tunnel, but the Request Inspection interface only stores the most recent 100 requests and truncates bodies over 1 MB. This limits our ability to perform bounded queries or paginate the dataset for downstream processing.
Constraints
The UI imposes an implicit 100‑request cap and a 1 MB body size limit, with no exposed API to modify these defaults. The cap is enforced uniformly across HTTP, HTTPS, and TCP tunnels that carry HTTP traffic, yet it is not documented in the public ngrok docs.
Unresolved Questions
• Can ngrok expose a configurable retention policy or pagination mechanism for the Request Inspection data?
• Is there an upcoming API or feature that will allow querying beyond the 100‑request limit?
• What is the current plan for handling request bodies larger than 1 MB in future releases?
