Hoppscotch WebSocket Binary Frame Support Limits
0 reputation · 11 Feb 2026, 13:17 UTC
Goal
Determine whether Hoppscotch’s WebSocket client can transmit raw binary frames or is limited to text‑only payloads.
Current Observations
The UI accepts text messages and file drops, but files are converted to base64 strings before sending. No toggle or setting appears to enable binary mode. The documentation references only text handling.
Uncertainty
It is unclear whether the underlying browser WebSocket API’s binary capabilities are intentionally disabled or simply not exposed in the client. The impact on server echo responses and the overall design choice remain unresolved.
Questions
- Is binary frame support planned for a future release?
- Can the client be configured to send ArrayBuffer or Blob payloads?
- What is the expected behavior when a server echoes binary data?
