Does Tower’s Safe Upgrade option actually create a pre‑upgrade snapshot of the Preferences file?

Goal

To determine whether the Safe Upgrade option in Tower’s installer preserves the user’s Preferences.plist before applying a new bundle.

Constraints

The installer does not mention a snapshot step, and documentation only references a “Safe Upgrade” toggle. Users rely on manual copies of Preferences, and a failed mid‑install can leave a corrupted bundle. Tower’s upgrade does not prompt before discarding custom Git credential helpers.

• When the Safe Upgrade option is selected, does the installer back up the Preferences file to a timestamped folder?
