Desired outcome
Configure a Rule Builder rule that automatically grants a 10 % discount to customers who belong to the "VIP" customer group when they add products to the cart.
Prerequisites
- A running Shopware 6 instance (version 6.4 or newer).
- Administrator login with access to Settings › Rule Builder.
- The VIP customer group already created in Customers › Customer groups.
Procedure
- Log in to the Shopware administration.
- Navigate to Settings › Rule Builder.
- Click the Add rule button.
- In the Name field, enter
VIP 10% discount. - Under Conditions, click Add condition and choose Customer group.
- Set the operator to equals and select the VIP group from the dropdown.
- Click Add action, select Discount percentage, and set the value to 10.
- Optionally, assign the rule to one or more sales channels via the Sales channel assignment toggle if you use multiple channels.
- Press Save to create the rule.
Expected checks
- The new rule appears in the rule list with the name
VIP 10% discountand is marked as active. - When a test customer logged in as a VIP member adds a product to the storefront cart, the cart summary shows a 10 % reduction before taxes.
- No error or warning messages related to the rule appear in Settings › Logs after the test.
Recovery options
- If the discount is not applied or behaves unexpectedly, toggle the rule’s Active switch to deactivate it.
- Clear the Shopware cache via Settings › Cache/Performance › Clear cache and repeat the test.
- If the rule needs adjustment, delete it and recreate it after verifying the condition and action values.
Limitations and practical verification
The Rule Builder evaluates rules in the order of their priority numbers; lower numbers have higher precedence. Ensure that no other discount rule with a lower priority overrides the VIP rule. You can view and adjust priority in the rule list by clicking the ⋮ menu and selecting Change priority.
To verify that the rule is the cause of the discount:
- Place a test order as a non‑VIP customer; the cart should show no discount.
- Switch the test customer to the VIP group (or log in with a VIP account) and repeat the cart addition; the 10 % discount should appear.
- Check the administration log for entries containing the rule name (
VIP 10% discount) around the time of the test; absence of errors indicates successful execution.
Example configuration (as entered in the UI)
Rule name: VIP 10% discount
Condition: Customer group equals VIP
Action: Discount percentage = 10
Sales channel assignment: (optional) All channels or selected channels
