AWS September briefing: new runtime, analytics and training options

AWS’s September 7 roundup includes an Amazon Linux 2027 public preview, Lambda SnapStart support for container-image functions, new Redshift support for Apache Iceberg v3 tables and a new AI Business Strategist certification offering. These announcements span different maturity levels and should be evaluated separately.

Treat the Linux preview as a compatibility-testing opportunity. Record the kernel, native packages and agents your application requires, then test the preview in an isolated environment. A preview operating system is not automatically the right default for a production migration.

For container-based Lambda functions, evaluate startup behavior with the new SnapStart option against the function’s initialization work and supported runtime requirements. Restore-time assumptions, external connections and cached state deserve explicit testing; reducing startup latency does not remove those correctness questions.

Analytics teams considering Iceberg v3 should validate table compatibility across every engine that reads or writes the data. A feature supported by one service can still create interoperability work elsewhere. For the certification, use the current exam guide and booking details to assess fit rather than assuming it replaces an engineering-focused credential.
